Today we read out broadcasts about rare strange creatures found in Arthur Spiderwicks Field Guide. The Black Phooka was spotted in the playground.
On Thursday last, Year 5 enjoyed some magnificent autumnal weather down at the old cress beds, now known as Gadespring and part of the Box Moor Trust. We did some bird watching, pond dipping (removing 2 unwelcome crayfish visitors from the USA who destroy the mini ecosystems within ponds by eating it all
) and a minibeast hunt, where we found lots of small frogs. With Waterways Experiences, we spent time navigating the canal, steering the boat and learning how a lock works, taking it in turns to open and close them.
One child said that it was better than Chessington!
We are enjoying reading Wonder so much that some of us even purchased our own copy of the book!
Soon we will be pros! We are enjoying learning the Ukele with Mr Tees
In year 4 we have been investigating whether the size of shadow increases or decreases depending on the distance of the light source.
Great measuring from this team!
Either Elfy can’t wait for term to finish OR he really doesn’t want to go back to Lapland!
What a surprise we had in Year 4 this morning! Looks like Elfy will be missing some of his golden time!
So Elfy went missing this morning and we were extremely worried. We came back to school after the Panto to find him making snow angels with the other Elves! Naughty Elfy!
Year 2 & 4 went to the post office together yesterday to post their letters to Santa. Elfy was so kind and gave us all a pound each to post our letters, even leaving enough change to buy ourselves a treat!
Today we sent our letters to Santa Claus!
We bought our stamps from the Post Office…
We also bought a sweet.
Then we put our letters in the post box!
Hopefully he won’t be too busy to reply!
This morning we walked in to find Elfy trying to climb up on to the projector! Whatever next?!
Elf on the shelf is here! We have all been so excited to welcome our new visitor into our classroom. Look at the activity he made us complete… we didn’t mind of course!
Sports Day was another great success! Thank you to everyone who came supported the children.

On Saturday 20th May we attended the South Hill year 3 and 4 football tournament. It was a great day with 11 teams entered into the tournament. All of our group matches were played on the Stamford Bridge pitch. Our first game was against Kings Langley (B) team and we won 1-0 with a goal from J. Next we played a good game against the South Hill (A) team and after a great effort we lost 1-0. In the next game we bounced back with a 1-0 win against Galley Hill (A) team with a powerful goal from Z. We then met with Westfield (A) and with a fantastic goal from J we managed to end the game with a draw. The last game we played was against Bridgewater and with a goal from J and Z and own goal by the other team we won with an easy 3-0 win. We then had a nervous wait to see if we got through to the semi-finals…… And after a short wait we found out that we had come second in our group and were going through to the semi-finals.
We went on to play a semi-final match against Galley Hill (A) on the Wembley pitch. After a tough game we won with the score 2-0 after two great goals from Z. We were through to the finals and our last game was against South Hill (A) with Mr Brathwaite as their coach. It was a great game and with one of our goals being disallowed (If only we had goal line technology!!) We lost with the score 1-0. We had some fantastic goals saved by O and worked well as a team to achieve good results. It was a great day had by all who attended and we all received runners up medals. A big thank you to J and Z’s dads for helping with coaching and managing the team on the day.
We have been exploring capacity by estimating the amount of water needed to fill different containers. We used different containers to help us.
The clues in the tile!!! In Year 3 we’ve been looking at fractions during maths. Mainly the tenths. We’ve also learnt about equivalent fractions for example, 1/2 is the same as 3/6, 4/8, 5/10 or 6/12. Going back to tenths, we know that 0/10 =0%=0.0 and so on.
Again, the clues in the tile! Also in English we’ve been learning about mystery stories, one we’ve been focusing the most on is ‘In the back seat.’ We’ve enjoyed text mapping the story, we had split it into 10 parts and worked in partners to act it out and draw it too.

In French we have been learning about animals. For example, a guinea pig is un cochon d’lnde. We have a Year 3 French Art Gallery where we put pictures or creations made by us. We also have a French Star each week. To earn the French badge we must try hard, have a go at everything, not give up so easily and try our best when using our French accent. We love our French lessons and can’t wait to learn more!!

Today we have been practising text mapping to help us learn a text and improve our vocabulary. Once we have text mapped we practice our part in the text with actions to show the class.
Today we went to St John’s church for a carol service. We sang lots of different Christmas carols and heard readings from the year 6 children. Each class made a decoration for our tree which was on display at the church.
We have been making clay pots this afternoon in celebration of the Hindu Festival of Light. The children also stuck candles to their Menorah in celebration of the Jewish Festival of Light.
The children were treated to a showing of ‘Robin Hood’
