Meet the Governors

LEA GovernorMrs Kaye Cartwright (Chair)I have over 25 year experience as a teacher many of which as a Senior Leader in a large Secondary School therefore bringing a wealth of experience to the Governing Body.

I have detailed knowledge of school systems and processes which enables me to assess accurately the strengths and weaknesses of the school and to provide both support and challenge to the Head teacher.

My key skills are analysing and challenging the headteacher in relation to the school exam results/data and holding him to account to ensure all pupils reach their potential.

Co-opted GovernorMrs Val AxfordI came to teaching in 2007 after 25 years with HSBC where a variety of roles including branch manager, training manager and commercial manager has equipped me with a vast range of experience and skills including planning, financial analysis and risk assessment.

I am a former Deputy Headteacher at Pixies Hill; I was appointed to the Senior Leadership Team in 2011 with an Assessment lead, and to the role of Deputy Head in 2013. I also moderated KS2 writing for Hertfordshire County.

Co-opted GovernorMr Mark SibleyI have worked in the financial services sector for 27 years, my last role being the chair of a governance committee which was responsible for approving and overseeing various customer requests.

This role required careful analysis of large amounts of data and this experience has proven to be extremely useful when engaging with the Head about the key performance metrics of the school.

Although I have no previous experience as a governor, I have been involved in mentoring programmes within schools in North London, helping Y11 pupils with their GCSE preparations.

I am married with three children and have lived in Berkhamsted since 2002.

Co-opted GovernorMr Ellison RiddleI am a Chartered Accountant and have worked for 18 years as, alternately, an auditor, consultant, analyst and finance officer for both large and small companies.

I have a detailed knowledge of interrogating budgets, management accounts and operating procedures which enables me to provide both support and challenge to the Head teacher in matters relating to the school's finances and resources.

I have been a governor at Pixies Hill School since December 2014.

Co-opted GovernorMrs Sarah BakerI have been a volunteer parent helper at Pixies Hill School for 6 years helping out in class and really enjoy working with the teachers and children.

Prior to this I graduated from De Montfort university and worked in IT as a a Data Analyst and an Oracle DBA for a retail bank and then a pharmaceutical company.

I have two children, both of whom attended Pixies Hill and are now at secondary school.

I bring my experience in IT to the governing body and have been involved with the school website. I also look after governor training and maintain the record of governor attendance on training courses.

Co-opted GovernorMr Graeme SnellSome years ago I was a parent at Pixies - my son is at The Hemel Hempstead Secondary where I am also a Governor.

I also have over 30 years experience in IT and Telecommunications, in a variety of technical and business roles.

Staff GovernorMrs Sally ThinksakerI am currently the Deputy Head at Pixies Hill Primary and have worked there for 7 years. As well as holding the post of Deputy Head, I am the maths lead and teaching and learning lead. These roles within school have helped me to have a fantastic knowledge and understanding of how children learn and acquire new skills.

When I am not in work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and young son. We enjoy spending time as a family and love to be outdoors doing things.

Associate GovernorMr David SmithI am a Train driver on the East Coast Mainline and an 'on call' Firefighter.
I used to be a Whole-Time Firefighter up until 2018, having served nearly 10 years in the service. Prior to this I worked as an Operations Manager in the Health and Fitness Industry. One of my roles was being the health and safety officer, ensuring the facilities met requirements and were successful in passing inspections and audits.
